Using Apple AirPod Pros 2 at Concerts

Concert Mode, aka Adaptive Transparency

Turning on Adaptive Transparency will allow you to hear everything around you while capping loud noises to 85 dB. This means you can use your Apple AirPod Pro 2 as awesome earplugs at loud concerts. Just put your AirPods in your ears. Turn on transparency mode (no music playing) sit back, and enjoy the concert at safe levels while maintaining much more of the sound quality compared to foam plugs. I have used these at several rock concerts, both indoor and outdoor festivals, from the Pixies, Janes Addition and Smashing Pumpkins through to Canada’s Drag Race live show. Overall they work really well 95% of the time. With significantly improved audio quality over the cheap foam earplugs, I used to use. One issue I have found is that if you are standing next to someone who likes to scream a lot, this can cause the headphones to over-compensate, causing the sound to fluctuate, which is mildly annoying….but no more than the screaming person.

To enable, follow these steps or watch the video below: 1) Connect your AirPods Pro 2 to your iPhone 2) Go to the settings Menu 3) Airpods Menu (up the top) 4) Scroll down to Adaptive Transparency and toggle on. 5) You can now switch between a) Noise cancelling, b) off or c) transparency 6) That’s it!
